Why are we up at 5:30...?
Driveway shoveled, satellite dish cleared of snow, takeout gotten. Dad score: Superior. Actually, the snowstorm was kind of a bust, with only about three inches falling here before everything turned to mush. Very lackluster. We didn't even need the snow blower. We'll need to clear some slush this morning before heading out.
Yesterday's professional football contests were also rather lackluster. We admit to being tired of the NFL. Announcers know too little and say too much. The officials dictate and/or alter the course of the game. Instant replay is as important as offense, defense, and special teams. Players strut and thump their chests after the most routine plays. And if we see one more gambling ad....Baaaaah, we swipe at the air and swig our grog.
We once again note that with each week it is less likely Trump will lose. We still think he will lose, we just think the chances of his losing are decreasing. That's all well and good, but what is the Republican plan to Stop the Steal? Maybe Ron DeSantis has outorganized Trump in Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina. Sigh. Soon we'll have a report from a man on the ground.
Unscientific observation: Yesterday on FB we saw no mention of the January 6th Mostly Peaceful Protest at the Capitol. We were curious to see what we wrote about the MPP three years ago. Here are our initial thoughts that night/next morning. And here we are trying to be honest while not exactly applauding the MPP or selling out our principles. Who is that asshole in the comments? Man, were we ever in a mood, we see going back over our November, December, and January posts. Post election-theft depression and gout will do that to one. Here's what we wrote for the Russians. Reminder: Trump won.
Will's Good Idea for the Week of 1/7/24World War 1990: The Final Storm now has 10 ratings, 4.2 stars. Usually by ten ratings we know the readership likes the book. But a couple of early ratings were 3 stars, which is unusual. Could be statistical noise. We'll see. But we're not going to declare TFS a success. Not yet, not till we get to 15, maybe 20 reviews.
Further good ideas....we had a good day yesterday with World War 1990: Norway. We found a way to work in the Swedish PM, the Norwegian PM's hope that Sweden will enter the war, and the Swedish Air Force doing its bit during the epilogue chapter. We still don't know how to describe the destruction of the Soviet Northern Fleet, but we are laying the groundwork. Progress. We're adding Sven Venson, the Norwegian old man who finds Admiral Romanov's downed aircraft in World War 1990: Operation Arctic Storm. He'll mostly be observing interesting things.
Even more good ideas. For War Night, why not a story where the morning after the bombs stop falling (three days), a man leaves his house, drives around town, and generally goes about his daily routine as before? He heads to the gas station, he gets his coffee, he stops by the post office, yada...yada, yada, yada. Indeed, why not? Exit question: what is the purpose of the story?
