Will's Good Idea for the Week of 10/5/25

A pleasant Sunday morn to the reader(s) of Stroock's Books, such as they are.

Once again, we have autumnal temps in the morning, but will get summer temps in the afternoon. This seasonal duality should persist for a few more days.

So we were watching Tom Wolfe's A Man in Full, on Netflix last night. We enjoyed it much more than we anticipated. Anyway, during one scene we thought we heard a character say a name. We watched the credits and it turns out we were right:

Mr. Wolfe was one of those New York City glitterati types (see our review of a documentary about the man), and we know exactly where he got the name, the old Stroock law firm, founded by our ancestors, now sadly defunct.* They spelled 'Stroock' right. For reasons we've never understood people tend to leave off the 'c'. But 'Stroock' was pronounced wrong, with an 'ooo' rather than a 'u'. Stroock of course rhymes with book.

Things seem to be progressing in the Middle East, to Israel's favor. We await events. Sorry doomers, Trump's putting all the pressure on Hamas.

Will's Good Idea for the Week of 10/5/25: Every post Final Storm novel should have an opening blockbuster that describes something happening earlier in the war. We already know what the Esercito Italiano OBB is. We need one for Thatcher's War, making the novel even longer. May the gods help us. Ideas welcome.

*An old friend worked at Stroock for several years. We'd call him up at the office, 'Yes this is William Stroock...'. Replied his secretary, 'Yes, sir, Mr. Stroock. Right away.' See also Stroock Woolens. [So you come from a line of prominent lawyers and entrepreneurs, your grandfather was a very big deal in the advertising business, and you've become... .an indy author...clap-clap-clap....-Ed]. Go pour yourself another glass of chardonnay, Ed.
